Monthly Snapshots: October 2017

Monthly Snapshots: October 2017 | Curated Couple

I can’t believe today is November first! The year is just flying by and today obviously marks the beginning of the holiday season now that we’re past Halloween, right? (Kidding — sort of. I’m mostly just excited to decorate the house!) Our phones are full of snapshots each month, so we thought it would be fun to put together a monthly roundup of the things we’re up to that don’t necessarily warrant a full post. Plus, it’s always nice to reflect back on our favorite mini moments from the month before diving into the next.

Left to right; top to bottom:

1 – I have been obsessed with buying houseplants lately. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t go into a home improvement store or greenhouse without leaving with a new plant or two!

2 – Every light fixture in our house needs to be updated eventually. We started with the light in the entryway, which was a shiny gold fixture with floral-etched panels of glass. It was a relic from the ’80s that annoyed me every time I walked through the door. We replaced it with an affordable schoolhouse light that’s on sale right now for $25! Even at full price (a mere $50), it’s worth it. The oil-rubbed bronze finish looks expensive and it’s a real glass dome (some in that price point were plastic).

3 – I bought this doormat when we put in our very first offer on a house, which was actually down the block. Happily things worked out the way they did and the doormat is now at home on our front porch.

4 – The best part of finally having a house is that weekend mornings are reserved for lounging rather than going on multiple home tours and open houses!

5 – We dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf for Halloween this year.

6 – After painting half of our rooms over a three-week period this summer between closing on the house and getting our floors refinished, we needed a break — and now it’s time to get back to it! I eased back into the project with the trim around our bedroom door and closet. I can’t believe we waited so long to tackle it because it looks so good! (The hardest part was getting the old hardware off of the door frames. Fingers crossed that we can strip four layers of paint off the brass and start fresh!)

7 – Our living room is finally starting to come together! This corner of the room still needs to be styled and the artwork still needs to be hung, but it’s getting there! (Sources: mirror, lamp, bar cabinet, plant stands, artwork)

8 – One of our guilty pleasures is making some sort of indulgent snack food for football games on the weekend. This artichoke dip recipe is fantastic. (The runner has since sold out, but you can still get the placemats in the same pattern.)

9 – Whenever we pass a record store or visit a flea market, we need to flip through the records in search of fun albums to add to our collection.
